Hi, I have a situation – I wouldn’t call it a problem – that I find it difficult to sleep at night and end up taking zimovane (I think that’s the same as Ambien in the USA) to get to sleep. I wonder what that’s doing to me as it does make me drowsy during the day. I wonder if people on this list have been in this situation, what their opinion on it is, and if there are qigong ways of making sleep come easier without chemicals?

    Hi Tom,

    check out http://www.taohealingarts.com

Ron is selling Stephen T. Chang’s formulas. There are some for insomnia (see the self-diagnosis page). Maybe have a consultation with Ron (don’t know the costs) to figure out which are best…

If you’re not working out already, I would suggest doing exhausting physical exercise before bed.

There’s a technique in the book “Chi Nei Tsang – Healing from Within”, called “Nine Turns and the Sleeping Loop”. It has helped me in times when stress has overruled the desire to sleep.

Basically it moves the attention into the body and away from the chattering mind.

I haven’t had this problem and imagine, as with everything else,it is very particular to your own circumstances. What keeps you up? Physical restlessness or mental agitation?

Do you have a physical practice that weaves the breath into the mind?

That is the only way I have found to encourage sleep when I am agitated in some way…the breath and slow movements…or stand outside and get a bigger perspective than what is happening inside my 4 walls…chemicals don’t help but more than likely mask what is nagging at you.

Good luck with it and hope you report whatever does help, baba
