Michael Winn replied to the topic What is 'letting go'? in the forum General 19 years, 8 months ago
Wendy,
it’s a good question. I was referring to letting go of any personal pattern.
I think letting go is fine a first stage strategy – it can open up new space. It’s simple, like breathing out.
But as you and Fajin have pointed out, it can be deceptive – usually only the symptom that is aggravating you consicously is released, and underlying…[Read more] -
Michael Winn replied to the topic Gunther Weil : view points on his Alchemy expierence? Whats his Story? in the forum General 19 years, 8 months ago
Bagua,
I am in touch with Gunther regularly. So I know he is not in touch with what has been developed over the last 15 years since he left Healing Tao. But one of Gunther’s best friends, Stephen Joseph, who also dropped out about the same time, has come back and taken the kan & li courses recently. I think that makes him more qualified as one…[Read more] -

Max,
I thnk you will be very hard pressed to define either pure taoism or pure buddhism. I know that the professional scholars cannot agree on it, and the practitioners cannot agree on it. History is never neat, and these terms like “pure taoism” are conceptual terms imposed on the amorphous flow of history. The claim is basically a…[Read more]

Michael Winn replied to the topic Gunther Weil : view points on his Alchemy expierence? Whats his Story? in the forum General 19 years, 8 months ago
Since I missed out on the last discussion, let me add some additional light.
Gunther originally taught Chia how to set up a national workshop schedule and got him going in the early 80’s.
But he was older than Chia, wanted to be his own teacher, and there was no room next to Chia for him to grow. Chia was very ambitious, needless to say, and…[Read more] -
Michael Winn replied to the topic For Michael Re: WAS BUDDHA A HUMAN OR A GOD AT BIRTH? in the forum Philosophy 19 years, 8 months ago
Assuming your history is correct, the story with Gautama is the same as with jesus – they didn’t want a religion formed around them, that arose likely out of the insecurity of humans and their tendency to project an absolute power that will explain their problems and save/prepare them for death.
It is unfortunate that insights into human nature…[Read more]

Spyrelx,
dividing posts into three will actually make it easier for me and others to monitor what’s of interest.
means things won’t get buried as quickly, or at least it should take three times as long.Sex postings can be easily divided into sexual practices, sex philosophy, or general (“I’m looking for a Taoist adept as a lover, any…[Read more]

Max,
There is a clear distinction between creating the formulas themselves and creating techniques to effectuate the formulas. I think that you may have confused those two.
Certainly Chia created many new techniques, but never the formulas themselves as you apparently implied.I don’t quite understand why you smile (implied condescension)…[Read more]

Eva Wong calls it the School of Interior Gods, a reference to five shen who are in charge of transformation. Most of these alchemical practices existed in various forms, for thousands of years as private oral transmission; and some of these were organized more publicly during the Song Dynasty, starting in 960 ad. and running for a couple hundred…[Read more]

Michael Winn replied to the topic General distrust of Mantak Chia??? in the forum General 19 years, 8 months ago
Emelgee,
There are two different problems here. One is widespread unspoken anger by Chinese at Chia giving away their “national treasures” to big nosed foreigners. Combined with jealousy of his commerical success, they often grasp at any failing they can find to discredit him.
Chia forced many of them to start teaching out their secrets…[Read more]

there are huge variations in systems and amongst teachers on this point.

Fajin,
I am not sure where Max gets his ideas, as he wasn’t around when these formulas were first taught, or have other reliable sources of information as far as I know.
Max is a student of a buddhist meditation teacher who teaches that Taoist alchemy is dangerous and qigong a waste of time, so it’s possible that has influenced his views…[Read more]

There is no evidence that the early taoists had any concern about it whatsoever.
some latter day reincarnationists (such as modern Complete Perfection Taoists who absorbed buddhist ideas about hell realms and reincarnation) have argued with me that references found in apocryphal texts (i.e. claimed to be Lao Tzu, but almost certainly are not)…[Read more]

Michael Winn replied to the topic Daoism: The Oral Tradition by Dr. Michael Saso in the forum General 19 years, 8 months ago
I met with Saso back in 1987, when I visited him in Hawaii. He is very likeable and sincere, unorthodox in the scholarly community because he is Daoist priest, and academic outcast becasue he is not an orthodox scholar maintaining objectivity.
Saso told me he wanted the healing tao to publish his books and make them popular.
Ironic, in…[Read more]

Absolutely. I teach teach the Yin fusion methods I developed first, as most people need that. And had to develop them, as Chia didn’t have anything much in the way of yin. He’s is getting much better now, but his published materials don’t reflect it.
